Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

All of us are unlikely not to experience trauma during our lifetime. From a near miss crossing the road, to a natural disaster such as flooding to the more extreme events of rape, violence and war. For many people overtime they may not experience any long-term effect. However, for some, the impact of the trauma remains. Showing itself in unexpected body reactions when there seems to be no reminder of the traumatic event. To nightmares, flashbacks, and actions that interfere in everyday life. This may then lead to thinking you have or being diagnosed with PTSD. What does this mean?

The 5 minute TED-Amination 'The Psychology of post-tramatic stress disorder' takes you through what PTSD is.

Animation by Tomas Pichardo-Espaillat
